President Obama blinked first and the Russians took advantage. Not that he really tried anyway...He has no stomach for confrontation. Our allies, Poland and The Czech Republic won't be receiving the missile shields promised under the previous administration. Iran will be pursuing it's nuclear ambitions, Russia is free to do pretty much whatever it wants and Israel is just pissed and who could blame them. And to top it all off, Joe Biden makes the statement, "there is no threat there", referring to Iran.
It's obvious foreign policy is not one of Obama's strong points, so we're going to dig into the Reagan archives and bring out the video of his address at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, 1987. This, of course is the famous "Bring Down This Wall"speech but as I was reading through the transcript there are some very good points for Obama to consider on domestic issues as well as how to conduct foriegn policy. I fully realize this won't change the Administrations view, they're too far into their socialist agenda for America. (SAFA Plan) But it will remind America what we stand for and what we can be when someone steps forward that truly believes America is the greatest country on earth and stands firm on conservative principals upon which she was founded.
Address from the Brandenburg Gate (Berlin Wall) (June 12,1987)
In West Germany and here in Berlin, there took place an economic miracle,...so prosperity can come about only when the farmer and businessman enjoy economic freedom. The German leaders reduced tariffs, expanded free trade, lowered taxes. From 1950 to 1960 alone, the standard of living in West Germany and Berlin doubled.
There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
But through it all, the alliance held firm. And I invite those who protested then—I invite those who protest today—to mark this fact: Because we remained strong, the Soviets came back to the table.
..this wall will fall. For it cannot withstand faith; it cannot withstand truth. The wall cannot withstand freedom.
...and to those who demonstrate so. I wonder if they have ever asked themselves that if they should have the kind of government they apparently seek, no one would ever be able to do what they're doing again.
The video below is from a man who knew how to govern, how to lead, and knew how to stand by our allies and conduct foreign policy. For a full copy of the transcript use the following link:http://millercenter.org/scripps/archive/speeches/detail/3415
