I thought this was a great crash for the huge ego of Obama, who was thinking that no matter what, EVERYONE in the world loved him. Guess he found out that wasn't so true. Guess the world telling him that they didn't love him sunk in better than America telling him that.

You're right. The world is telling him something, but will he listen?
There are reasons why past American Presidents haven't been involved in making the face to face personal pitch to the IOC. Number 1 on the list is the negative PR at home and abroad it can produce if you fail. If you win it appears that America has bullied or bribed the members into voting their way. We are already seen as arrogant and this reinforces the image. The Obama Administration is indeed arrogant and they set themselves up for an embarassing failure and the IOC was more than happy to hand it to them.
