THE ACLU HASN'T A-CLU(E)

The no clue ACLU is at it again. This time they're weighing in on the possibility of a White House decision to revert back to military tribunals for 9/11 suspects in hope of gaining Congressional approval for the closing of Guantanamo.  The executive director of the ACLU, Anthony D. Romero has said, "If this stunning reversal comes to pass, President Obama will deal a death blow to his own Justice Department, not to mention American values. The military commissions system is incapable of handling complicated terrorism cases."

Death blow to the Justice Department?  That might not be such a bad idea but a death blow to American values and a military incapable of handling complicated terror cases is simply ludicrous.  Those are the words from a ticked off radical leftist group claiming to represent mainstream America.  The only values the ACLU wants to protect are their own. These trials would put them in the spotlight, on the big stage, challenging everything prosecutors had and the the way it was obtained in order to win freedom for the accused.  They have been waiting years for this moment and now it may slip away.

Their only recourse is to attack the mentality of our military and the military system of justice. Why? Because they know all their whiny little motions and objections that are accepted in civilian court won't be tolerated or given the same weight in the military tribunal. The trial will be run in an orderly fashion. That's not to say that the trials will be short and quick but it won't be the circus and drama that the ACLU is searching for in civilian court of law.  The outrage expressed by them is typical of the organization.  If the majority of Americans are for it, the ACLU is against it.

If there is anything complicated about trying terrorists, it is only because the Obama Administration has made it so. It's obvious they realize that now, though they would never admit it, and are looking once again for compromise.  Terrorists should and must be treated as enemy combatants in the War On Terrorism. That said, they should be held in Guantanamo no matter when and where they are captured, "water-boarded" sufficiently, then moved into the military court system to be tried and fried. That's not complicated. What is complicated is being an organization claiming to represent the view of America and having no clue as to what that view is.

UPDATE: 03/07/2010
A full-page ad in Sunday's New York Times left no doubt as to how the American Civil Liberties Union feels about the possibility of the president reversing the decision to send Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his alleged co-conspirators to civilian court.

"What will it be Mr. President?" the ad asks in boldfaced type. "Change or more of the Same?"
In the middle of those words are four photos that show Obama's face morphing into Bush's

They call it the ultimate liberal left insult to Obama.  I personally think it's a rather nice compliment.

  1. You are so right on this one. And to top it off......the cost to the American public will not be so high as it would in a civilian court. The Military tribunals were set up to deal with problems of a military nature, and when in a war, as we are in against terrorism, the military tribunal is the way to go.....though I think that Obama will be sorely disappointed when that way doesn't show him the way to close Guantanamo.

  2. It's going to be interesting. If Obama cuts a deal with enough Republicans he may get the funds he needs for the closing. I hope it doesn't go that way. America needs the favility to stay open.

  3. When the POTUS and the United States Attorney General both publicly stated that these terrorists would "get a fair trial, be found guilty and be executed", they effectively slammed the door on any hope of civilian justice. Any apprentice attorney just getting acquainted with the concept of a shaving razor could get an immediate dismissal in a civilian court.

What's acutely embarrassing is the failure of the alleged Harvard Law School actors in this play to realize such a basic truth.

I am really having a hard time deciding if this administration is governing with a deliberate agenda or goal in mind, or are they simply a group of spasmodic jerks spouting off statements without any thought to what is being said. Lately it seems we are being governed buy a total bunch of screw-ups!

  5. Of course, like everyone else, the NYTimes still blames Bush for everything.....including Obama defecting and changing his ideas on the trials. It seems that none of the blame is ever theirs. It is a shame that the New York Slimes still exists. If any of us ran a business on lies and deceit the way they do, we wouldn't be in business long, now would we? As for Obama, he really has to start engaging his brain before putting his mouth in gear.
